I was able to get this setup relatively quickly on VMWare Player using Lubuntu 20.04, which is a lightweight version of Ubuntu. You won't be able to use the mic - and even if the software supported this, LDAC is for playback only so it wouldn't work with the headphones. This is working very well for me with no perceptible lag. Scream is able to send high-fidelity audio, including 96khz, which I am able to set from the Windows Sound device settings. Then I run a scream receiver in the Linux VM - it receives the audio from Windows and streams it to my headphones. I installed the scream device on Windows, which shows up as an available output device. Scream is a project which creates a virtual audio device on windows and is capable of sending audio from Windows to a Scream receiver with very low latency. The next step is to get the windows host to send its audio to the linux VM. With this setup, I am able to connect the Linux VM directly to my headphones using LDAC and send audio from Linux applications to my headphones. There are LDAC drivers for linux that have been ported from android: I passthrough my generic old bluetooth adapter to a Linux VM and then connect my headphones to this Linux VM directly. I was able to get 96khz audio output from Windows 10 PC working with my WH1000xm3's.
